Early Decision & Action
The information below will help you to differentiate between Early Decision and Action, as well as provide insight into what is the best option for you.
Early Decision
- ED applicants typically apply in November and receive their decision shortly after. These applicants make a commitment to their first-choice college.
- Students are only permitted to apply to one college ED, and other colleges under regular admission circumstances.
- If admitted, the student will enroll and withdraw all other applications. This is a binding commitment, so if accepted, the student must attend the college. But, this is only if the student and their family feel as if they were offered an adequate amount of financial aid.
Who Should Consider?
- If you have found the school that is the best for you and are certain you want to attend, consider applying as an ED applicant!
Early Action
- EA applicants apply early. EA students usually have until early or mid November to submit their applicant, and receive their decision in January or February.
- The difference from Early Decision is that when a student is admitted EA, it is a non-binding commitment, which means they are not obligated to attend.
- EA students who are admitted normally have until May 1st to reply to their offer.
Who Should Consider?
- If you have found a school that you are interested in, but still want to weigh out your options, applying as an EA applicant is a great option!
Benefits of Applying ED or EA
- You will receive an admission decision earlier!
- You can finish the application process sooner in advance.
